Best of 2024

Part Two of Two. What's your one-word intention for the year?

❤️‍🔥 Hello my friend, HNY! As promised, albeit late (who’s reading emails this week anyway?), here’s the second of two Weekly Curation edits before I’m back. Hope you enjoy the 2024 recap!

WEEKLY CURATION: BEST OF 2024

BOOKS I LOVED
  • Together: Loneliness, Health, and What Happens When We Find Connection, by Dr. Vivek H. Murthy.

  • How to Really Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen, by David Brooks.

  • Belong: Find your People, Create Community and Live a More Connected Life, by Radha Agarwal.

NEWSLETTERS I SUBSCRIBED TO
  • Connective Tissue: “A newsletter on the connections, communities, and commitments that bind us together”, by Sam Pressler and team.

  • BuildBetter: “Helping people build better relationship habits with friends, family, and professionals. Exploring psychology, tactics, events and companies that help us connect meaningfully”, by Devin Keane.

  • Psyche: “Thought-provoking articles about human nature from diverse thinkers”.

PEOPLE WHO CAUGHT MY ATTENTION
  • Radha Agrawal: On a mission to end loneliness and build a culture of belonging for people and the planet with Belong Center, her nonprofit in the U.S. What caught my eye is Radha’s fun and bold approach, her nationwide projects, and her relentless committment.

  • Andy Dunn: Former co-founder of Bonobos and current founder of Pie—an app connecting people IRL. Andy has a fascinating take on the role of startups in helping solve the loneliness epidemic, arguing for a new type of gig economy around hosts/facilitators/community builders.

  • Brian Chesky: You may know him as one of the co-founders of Airbnb. I know of him as a creative person committed to connection and belonging. In multiple interviews, Brian has implied big changes coming to Airbnb in making it more about the people and less about the travel.

Any recommendations? Please share!

Finally, to close off, what’s your one-word intention for 2025? Mine is space... more on that later. Not sure I can yet fully explain it myself, but it came to mind and felt just right.

📢 PSA: There aren’t many events going on these days. Focus on those around you, people!! Online and offline event information will be back next week. Early access and discounts to events available to premium susbcribers only. Become a Friend of Casa Cinco below.

“… When you make something, when you improve something, when you deliver something, when you add some new thing or service to the lives of strangers, making them happier, or healthier, or safer, or better… you’re participating more fully in the grand whole human drama. More than simply alive, you’re helping others to live more fully…”
